Diagnostic BMW Repair

Your BMW is designed to provide you with a truly beautiful driving experience like no other. But what happens when your vehicle develops an issue that no one in Perth can identify or diagnose?

Fixing BMW vehicles starts with a specialist diagnostic analysis and at Pace Auto Werks, we use Autologic diagnostic technology to do it properly.

Autologic gives our technicians complete, OEM-level communication with your BMW’s control units – the same depth of access used by BMW dealerships. The only difference is you don’t need to deal with dealership wait times and labour expenses. Unlike generic scan tools, Autologic reads BMW-specific fault codes, including proprietary codes that standard mechanics simply can’t see. We work with all BMW model lines, including the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and X Series, and our technicians are experienced in ISTA-level diagnostics for complex electrical, engine management and drivetrain faults.

Is the engine light on your vehicles dash on? Our BMW mechanics have the skills and knowledge to diagnose and repair any issue that your vehicle may be experiencing.

Our Autologic diagnostic service, combined with our experienced technicians’ knowledge, gives you a clear answer and defined solution without guesswork.

cOMMON bmw fAULTS WE REPAIR

Perth BMW owners bring their vehicles to us with a range of recurring issues. Since 1999, we’ve seen and repaired it all. Here are some of the most common faults our technicians diagnose and fix:

  • Carbon Build Up on Intake Valves: Particularly common on BMW N20 and N55 engines. Our walnut shell blasting service removes deposits safely and effectively.
  • Oil Leaks: Valve cover gaskets, oil filter housing gaskets and rear main seals are frequent failure points on high kilometre BMWs.
  • Cooling System Failures: Water pumps, expansion tanks and thermostats are known weak points, particularly on the N52 and N54 engines.
  • Fuel Injector & High Pressure Fuel Pump Faults: Common on turbocharged BMW engines, causing misfires, rough running or poor fuel economy.
  • Electrical and iDrive Faults: Module coding, battery registration and control unit issues that require OEM-level Autologic diagnostics to resolve correctly.
  • Vanos Solenoid Faults: A common cause of rough idling, poor power delivery and fault codes on many petrol BMW engines.

Specialist BMW Service perth

As a BMW vehicle owner, it’s imperative that your vehicle’s performance operates as well as the day you purchased it, regardless of the age or kilometres on the clock. Regular, comprehensive BMW servicing is a key investment to maintain your vehicle’s safety, reliability, and longevity.

Your vehicle is a highly engineered and precision designed machine and deserves to be treated appropriately. We use only the highest quality OEM and genuine BMW parts and fluids when servicing and maintaining your vehicle, carried out with passion and care.

Our extensive experience with German vehicles, commitment to quality, personalised service, and thorough inspections of your BMW, ensures we identify potential issues that may be of concern in the future. Our technicians have decades of experience with BMW services, maintenance, major repairs, diagnosing and tuning.

Almost all engine ECUs are dumbed down from the factory to compensate for poor quality fuel and poor servicing (e.g. blocked filters, worn spark plugs etc). By carrying out a remap of your BMW’s ECU, we can expand the operating parameters to maximise your engine’s potential with fantastic gains made in the vehicle’s torque, power, and general drivability.

Benefits of re-tuning your engine ECU include:

  • Improved power and torque
  • Greater engine flexibility
  • Increased fuel efficiency
  • Smoother throttle response

Turbo charged vehicles receive the greatest performance gains, however naturally aspirated engines become more lively and responsive, as well as gaining greater fuel economy through increased efficiency.

Real Work: BMW X5M valve stem seal replacement

Vehicle: 2017 BMW X5M (S63 B44 TU2 engine)

The problem:

The owner noticed smoke coming from the exhaust after sitting at idle, most noticeably at traffic lights. The S63 engine in the X5M has a known issue with valve stem seals hardening over time, which allows oil to pass through and get drawn into the inlet and exhaust ports. Left unaddressed, it worsens and causes excessive oil consumption, engine misfires and emissions issues.

Pace’s solution:

This is not a straightforward job. The repair requires pulling the engine and transmission out as a unit before the valve train is even accessible.

Using specialised locking tools and compressed air to hold each valve in place, we replaced all 32 valve stem seals cylinder by cylinder, then fully reassembled and reinstalled the engine, recharged the fluids and air conditioning, and completed a full post-installation test.

The result:

The BMW X5M left Pace’s workshop with new seals and clean exhaust. Now back to performing as it should be minus the excessive oil consumption. A complex repair carried out correctly the first time.
